The Weavers Factory is delighted to invite all Manchester Academy of Fine Artists to a private view for MAFA member Barbara Sykes’ new exhibition ‘The Human Condition’ at the Weavers Factory on Sunday September 25th, 2022. All members are welcome.
Barbara Sykes’ new exhibition at the Weavers Factory is a retrospective of her landmark figurative works and a brand new collection of emotive portraits created in the lockdown of 2020 and 2021. Winner of the Hugh Casson Drawing Prize at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, Barbara’s landmark dancing figures are inspired by her love of Rodin. And if you take a close look at her portraits you’ll witness the abstract and emotional nature of the human condition; there is no better place to see it than in the human face.

ABOUT MAFA
Manchester Academy of Fine Arts, MAFA, was created in 1859. Today it has a membership of over 110 diverse and talented artists. Our painters, sculptors and printmakers represent the best in fine art across the region. MAFA has had many renowned artists amongst its members including L. S. Lowry who was a member for over 40 years. Today MAFA remains committed to promoting fine art to the people of the North West through exhibitions and education. Their exhibitions feature new and existing artwork by MAFA members; some of their exhibitions follow a theme and others focus on a particular medium but all provide a fantastic opportunity to see and buy great art. Private views, talks, tours, specialist and skills sharing workshops, collaborative painting sessions and projects supporting emerging artistic talent are all part of MAFA’s regular activities programme.
